WARNING: These cookies are addictive! I haven't made snickerdoodles in ages and forgot how simply delicious they are.
Curious about the unusual name of these classic cookies, I went to Wickipedia. There are several theories ranging from variations of the German or Dutch words for snail (?) to a tall tale hero by the name of 'Snickerdoodle' as the inspiration. My favorite theory is another recipe following the New England tradition of giving cookies silly names such as Kinkawoodles, Jolly Boys, and Snickerdoodles.
Regardless of the origin, the cookie is great and the perfect treat to send as a lunch box treat with school starting back. Thanks to Spike Bakes for this week's Sweet Melissa Sundays selection. The recipe can be found here!
I looked on wikipedia, too, and I also enjoyed the explanation of whimsical New England names... Your cookies look delicious, and you are so right about them being addictive.

ReplyDeleteGreat job on your snickerdoodles- they look absolutely delicious. And I definitely agree, these cookies are addictive. I actually sent mine out in a care package, so I wasn't in danger of eating the whole batch myself! But they certainly made my house smell heavenly- I just love cinnamon :)
