Baked Sunday Mornings - Brooksters
So the boys over at Baked have written their third cookbook. I told myself that I wasn't going to buy it and I wasn't going to bake along with Baked Sunday Mornings. But I'm weak when it comes to cookbooks, actually lots of things but cookbooks in particular, and I caved and purchased Baked Elements.
I love the concept and layout of Baked Elements. They have selected ten of their favorite ingredients for baking and devoted a chapter to each. Many of their favorites are my favorites too: chocolate, cheese, peanut butter... My first reaction after doing a quick run through of all of the recipes? There isn't one that I'm not looking forward to making. How many cookbooks can you say that about?
Our first recipe was for Brooksters, a brownie topped with a chocolate chip cookie. What's not to love? I glanced at the Brookster pan sold at Williams & Sonoma but I practically refuse to buy cookware that only has one use and opted to use a muffin pan instead. I have a feeling that part of the success of this recipe has to do with proportion and using a wide, shallow pan creates a better result.
I have to say that I loved the idea of them more than the reality. The brownie was very good and the chocolate chip cookies were delicious and together they were okay, but not the dynamite combination I was expecting. I kind of felt like the brownie was ruining the cookie for me and vice versa. But I think this has to do with some abnormality on my part as everyone else seemed to enjoy them.
The recipe can be found on Baked Sunday Mornings, here!
I like how you can see both the brownie and chocolate chip cookie in your Brooksters.
ReplyDeleteNo abnormality at all! I prefer them separate. Together it was a little much for me. Not that it stopped me from eating them...Haha!
ReplyDeleteYay for weak willpower! LOL! Our group wouldn't be the same without you.
ReplyDeleteI loved the brownie part of these - I haven't made Baked brownies yet, but if this is a predictor of how good they are, I'm in!
We really liked these & I think they'd be fun to take to a party since they're so unusual.
Oh these look wonderful! I'm with you, I refuse to buy any product that only has one function! I liked these, but I was just surprised by how much cookie dough was leftover. So glad you broke down and decided to bake along! : )
ReplyDeleteWhile the Brooksters were LOVED by my children and my husband's coworkers, I'm with you...I prefer the two separate. I think these were a yummy treat, but I don't think I'd ever crave them the way I would crave a cookie or a brownie.
ReplyDeleteWhile I love both of these treats separate....I have to admit I liked them married together as well! But I will say they were really really rich. Yours look really great!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you.... I like these a lot but I prefer them in bar form! Mine sunk a bit in the middle too, but yours look just perfect.
ReplyDeleteI am sooo sold on making these...we're big brownie and chocolate chip cookie lovers! Thanks for the tips :)
